Happy Halloween!
Forget being a princess! This year Arianna wanted to be - THE CAT IN THE HAT!
Unfortunately, Arianna said that all the Cat in the Hat costumes are "for boys."
(Basically all the ones you can buy look like a black sweatsuit with a white stripe down the front and bow tie.)
After striking out on the costume sites, I turned to Etsy. But apparently no one on Etsy knows anything about Halloween in the Northeast because those halter top dresses were just not going to cut it.
So, I was left to my own devices, and had to make Arianna's costume myself. (Which I'm not going to lie, I really enjoyed doing.) And I absolutely LOVE how it turned out.
For her costume I made: A black and white tutu with a red sequin belt, a black tshirt with white fur down the front, a long black fluffy tail, and a nice big red bow tie with a velcro closure. I purchased: white gloves and a Dr. Seuss hat that I sewed cat ears onto.
The rest of the costume all depended on the weather the day of Halloween. If it was warm, she could wear a pair of black capris underneath the tutu and just wear the tshirt. If it was cold (which it was) she could wear black pants and a long sleeve shirt underneath the costume.
Next year, I plan on making and selling the costumes (shirt, skirt, bow tie) on my Etsy shop.
